11th Annual Convention

American Hardwood in Europe
22-24 October 2003

Over the last 10 years the annual AHEC European Convention has grown as it has strategically moved around major European cities. In 2003 we return to Hamburg in Germany, providing easy access for the rest of the EU as well as for those markets in Central & Eastern Europe soon to join an expanding European Union.

No event like this should remain static, either in location or style. We have, therefore, made changes to the format this year without altering the underlying aim, which is to report on and debate current market issues and facilitate networking on a business to business level. A series of keynote presentations on the economy, the US hardwood market and forest certification will assess current developments in the European market and look towards future prospects.

In a new style "Panel Question Time" on the European hardwood market, a panel of experts will answer questions from delegates on a range of issues. (Questions should be submitted using the registration form below or via e-mail). The traditional market breakout sessions will be replaced this year by a series of prepared country presentations to be followed by an open debate on issues raised.

The Inter-Continental Hotel on the lakeside provides a high quality venue. Initial registration will take place on Wednesday 22 October, followed by an informal evening reception. An optional veneer mill tour is planned prior to the convention and we will also leave the hotel behind to discover the delights of the city of Hamburg for our Gala Dinner.

The AHEC European Convention is a unique forum, successfully bringing together many of the major US exporters and European importers and agents of American hardwoods. The import and distribution structure for American hardwoods in Europe has changed significantly in recent years. In response to this evolution, we will once again be encouraging manufacturers, who are also significant importers of American hardwoods, to join us as we debate the demand for American hardwoods across Europe.

This convention is open to American exporters and European importers and agents of American hardwoods, including larger manufacturers who are also importers.

This convention is not open to small end-users.
