Red Oak Design
Winning designs, Mexico
AHEC recently organised the first American red oak Furniture Design Competition in Mexico with Architecture and Design University students. The design competition attracted 289 entries from 14 design schools throughout Mexico.
The objective was to promote American red oak as a renewable, widely available raw material for furniture manufacturing that provided designers with new options for modern industrial design. According to AHEC Latin America Director, Luis Zertuche, “given the wide variety of oak species available in Mexico over the course of its history, American red oak complements an existing aesthetic within Mexico and can be used to further advance Mexican design.”
The competition, which was judged by leading design school and professional associations throughout Mexico, resulted in a series of striking, contemporary designs. Please browse through the gallery to witness the vision of young, up and coming Mexican designers.
