Over twenty professional Korean designers selected American red oak as the species of choice in an AHEC-sponsored design project, “Environmentally Friendly Design with American Hardwood.” According the lead designer, Mr. Kim, “American red oak is particularly appropriate for a Korean approach to furniture design, since native Korean oak was the mainstay for construction and manufacturing until years of war and degradation depleted South Korea’s forest resource. American red oak allows these designers to capture the aesthetic of traditional Korean furniture in their contemporary designs.”
